Roo, that's what I did to you - had a bugger of a time getting my SMTP setting right on my account I was going to use until the Rev set up the alias accounts for us, so in the end I had to attach via email. (Hence the delay in me actually playing my turn - sorry everyone! :oops: )

Next time around, I'm going to use my main email account's STMP server (mail1.eircom.net - for anyone else on eircom broadband) and see if that works for me.

I was trying that with my normal mail's STMP (gpo.iol.ie) and it wasn't working at all for me.

bring up the options menu and input your ISP's smtp server address into the "your details" section

Sorry, I can never get my head around e-mail stuff. What should I be putting in for SMTP? I'm with Eircom BB but the e-mail account I'm using isn't eircom.net. I don't mind having to send it manually, I just want to maintain the anonymous account setup. Help! Tokugawa doesn't understand your filthy Western ways...

You should just enter 'mail1.eircom.net' in the STMP. You'll preserve anonymity because Rev H has setup up the email aliases in your user details already (you'll notice in the 'Your Details' dialogue box that your email is listed as something@darkkeep.com, so whoever you're sending to will only see that as your email.

I sent my original turn manually before I figured this out - to preserve anonymity this way you can alter your 'profile' in your email programme's settings to show a the darkkeep email address as both your name and your reply email address.

Personally, I'd go with the first option above, it's by far the simplist and what I'm going to do when (if???) we reach turn two.

So as not to confuse you more about my username - my leader will stilll show as Isabella in the game, but next turn I'm changing the name to 'Alejandro Alem' in a peaceful coup. Remember that name, Tokugawa-san, because you'll be hearing it again....in-game :shock:

I think at this stage it would be best if we just used the attachment feature on the boards, turns are unlikely to go missing and if someone 'disappears' for a while I can grab their turn using the admin functions here and move the game along.

So I basically pulled a Priam on it? Apologies - once the game said turn was sent okay, I assumed it had worked it's magic and gone.

I got a load error with the save game I was sent. It said that it expected version 102 or lower and that it could not load the initial data. I checked for updates and my version of civ is upto date, so i've no idea what the issue is.

Problem solved.

I redownloaded it a few times and eventually discovered that it was LeechGet that was messing up. It was downloading only 17Kb of the 70Kb file!

Rev, can you you do up a list of who is who vis-a-vis email game email adresses? Maybe make it a sticky. I think we're all a little confused as to the turn sequence. I know I am.

The turn sequence is pretty easy if you're using the private message system.
Just look at the saved filed from the game it contains the name of the person you're sending it to :)

So just pm them with it.

To keep things simple lets say the 'offical' way to send your turn is with it. That way we know thats sent and you can see when its read (it will move out of your out box to the sent one).

I have an O2 phone so I set up an account with them that allows text alerts, then I forward the emails from darkkeep to there and have a filter set up to check them. This costs 11c per message, just so you know

The first series of moves in the game are always pretty slow for pbem games, since it takes a while for the various parties to meet up, which is whats starting to happen at this point.

Anyway if you haven't actually retired from the game at this stage you could always see if someone else wants to play you place from boards.ie

If its the pace of the game you could always start one running at a much faster pace and starting at a later date, there's loads on people looking on civfantics for players and/or to join a game.

Is Roo out completely or still on 'extended leave'? Like, do we still give him a chance to play his turn before moving on?

It could speed things up if I did his turns - since I'm the player before him on the list, we could effectively have two turns dealt with at once....

I had a quick peek at the Attachments and it looks like it went through and was downloaded once. You should be able to see it in either your outbox(sent but not read) or SentBox(Send and read).

Just add the turn in this thread as an attachment. tbh you're better off using the pm system, we're using it on teh other game and have no problems.

Well I'm working on the idea that tok hs just sent the turn.

I think to ease things we'll abandon email, so if noone objects I'm going to delete the aliases tomorrow and we'll use the pm from now on which we know works and can be tracked.

You sent the wrong turn again buddy... The time code changes on your turns end so you will always have a different date on your attachments than spandex, everybody elses just make sure its the same as Tokugawa.
